Video call backgrounds for consultants
If you work independently, the video call is the meeting room. There is no reception, no boardroom and no signage on the door. Whatever is behind you is the only physical impression of your practice a client ever gets.
A logo mounted on the wall behind you does quietly what an office used to do. It says this is an established practice rather than someone working from a spare room, without you having to say it.
What works for consulting calls
- Keep the sign modest. A large logo reads as advertising. A small one reads as a business that has been there a while
- Put it to one side, never directly behind your head
- Choose a room that matches the work. Advisory reads better against a Consulting Room or Library than against a loft
- Match the sign lighting to the room. A sign lit from the wrong side is the detail that gives away a fake background
Which backdrop
Private Office, Executive Suite and Library Office all read as considered client rooms without competing for attention. Meeting Room and Boardroom suit larger engagements. If your practice is deliberately informal, Co-working Space or Loft work better. Filter by Executive or Corporate to see the full set.
A note on credibility
Clients are not fooled into thinking you have a corner office, and that is not the point. The point is that a considered background signals you took the meeting seriously. A cluttered kitchen signals the opposite, and a stock beach signals something worse.
